The Paganella
The Paganella-Gazza massif extends from the North-East to the South-West.
It is circumscribed by the Valle dell’Adige to the East, from the Valle dei Laghi to the South, by the Val Giudicarie and Lake Molveno to the West and by the Paganella plateau to the North.
This massif reaches a height of 2125 mts with its Cima Paganella, (Cima Canfedin is also over 2000 mt high).
It is well known for its ski pistes and up hill facilities that wind their way down towards Andalo and Fai. The Paganella territory is in a class apart for the variety and immensity of its vegetation : lush fir forests, thick beech woods and farther up great stretches of Swiss mountain pines, rhododendron and many other kinds of shrubs. An enormous range of marked paths are to be found in Mount Paganella . From North to South, at various altitudes, they wind their way from the surrounding valleys to the top of the mountain. Most of these treks are quite easy and offer the hiker breath taking views over the Valle dell’Adige and the other nearby valleys and, last but not least, a magnificent view of the Brenta Dolomites and Lake Garda.
Some of its forest roads can be used as mountain bike tracks, and for those who really don’t like cycling uphill, there are of course lifts from Andalo that bring to the top of the mountain. From here it’s all downhill cycling. Some of the routes are easy and some less. In the lower woods, in the right season, it’s possible to find a great variety of mushrooms. Animals also inhabit this mountain and it’s quite normal to spot deer, hares, foxes, marmots and a range of birds such as the capercaillie.
Paths number 605, 612 and 644 are the most frequently used paths from Molveno. ( For a more detailed description of the various paths, please see the page titled “ walks” and check out the paths that leave from Ponte di Bior or from the “Ville”).
Near the San. Giovanni Pass, towards the Valle dei Laghi, at about 10 minutes walking distance from the 643 – 612 fork, the “Bait del Germano”( bar/restaurant) has been recently opened. Set in a dramatic location, it is open from June to the beginning of October. TEL : +39 330 282952.
