Fishing at Molveno
Lake Molveno originated in the post glacial period thanks to the barring of the waterways of the Lambin brook and river Massodi caused by an enormous landslide from the southern part of the Brenta Group. Since medieval times it had been famous , from a fishing point of view, for the presence of the alpine salmon trout. It was one of the Prince Bishop of Trento’s favourite dishes.
Sadly, however, due to the building of the hydro electric plant at S Massenza this species died out. Hopes of reintroducing the alpine trout are high thanks to an ambitious project which includes a ichthyogenic plant intended for the reproduction and the repopulation of this precious fish. The plant is situated on the shore of the Massodi rivulet at the foot of the Val delle Seghe and at the entrance of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park.
However, many other fish animate the waters of the lake. The most important is the fresh water trout which often reaches 40 cm in length. Several techniques can be used to catch this fish : spinning, ground fishing and live bait fishing.
Perch ( 20 to 25 cm) is also popular and in Summer it’s quite easy to catch them from the shore. Pike, tench, barbells, carp and such are also to be found in various sizes.
